A resident of the Not For Profit’s Fraser Shores 1 retirement community in Hervey Bay, on Queensland’s Fraser Coast, nominated Deon for the award.
“I speak for many people when I say we strongly recommend (Mr Moran) for ‘Manager of the Year’, and I say once more: if all other managers were classed as being normal, then Deon Moran is NOT normal,” long-time resident Margaret Crump said, adding lightning-fast to clarify that if previous managers were normal, Deon is the polar opposite and, in fact, the “best manager that we’ve had in Fraser Shores.”

Deon said when he was told of his nomination he was emotional, humbled and wanted to state “it’s a community and a team that deliver what we do every day.”
He has a background in sales, business, marketing, and strategy and previously worked for large organisations like Coca-Cola, Suntory, Channel 7, and NewsCorp, but moved into retirement living in early 2023 with a burning desire to make a difference.
RLC Executive Director, Daniel Gannon, who presented Deon with the award, said, “It’s clear from testimonials that Deon Moran is an exceptional leader with strong problem-solving skills and a unique gift for understanding people and their needs.”
Deon is the first State winner to go into the running to be crowned Australia’s Village Manager of the Year at the RLC’s National Retirement Living Summit in Brisbane in June.

Deon has been an active participant in DCM Institute’s Professional Development Program for some time, and we congratulate him on his recognition as Queensland’s Village Manager of the Year.
