More than just bricks and mortar
At this week’s DCM Institute Professional Development Day in Adelaide, Laidre reinforced what many operators already know: refurbishments in retirement villages demand more than technical expertise—they demand care, coordination, and respect.
Henri Wolf, Laidre’s Senior Delivery Manager (left), spoke about the importance of working in live environments. “Before any work begins, we ensure your site team is fully across our methodology—every step, every timeline,” Henri explained.
“And where there’s an opportunity to include local trades or personnel, that’s always our preference. It’s one of the ways we support the communities we’re working in.”
Laidre’s interaction with residents is just as considered. The team understands that construction can be disruptive, and they go to great lengths to minimise impact. “We’re guests in people’s homes—there’s no other way to say it,” said Henri.
“Our conduct reflects that. From how we communicate to how we clean up our standards are personal.”
This mindset reflects a broader ethos that defines Laidre’s culture. Giving back is built into the business. Their philanthropic and not-for-profit work is part of their DNA—and they hold their subcontractors to the same standard. “We don’t separate values from delivery. What stood out to those in attendance was Laidre’s understanding of the dynamics of the retirement village environment.
Henri and his colleague Matt Guillaumier (right) spoke on the strong outcomes they have delivered for their clients through supporting village managers and residents—not just with the finished build, but throughout the entire process.
“Refurbishment is more than construction. It’s about delivering an outcome that supports village teams, respects residents, and enhances community life,” said Matt.
