This week, we brought together professionals from across the sector for three thought-provoking networking events, each hosted at a standout village and each offering a different lens on what matters most right now in retirement living and aged care.
Gordon Quarter, Anglicare – Tackling Loneliness Head-On
We kicked off the week at Gordon Quarter, Anglicare’s beautifully designed village nestled in Sydney’s Upper North Shore. Our host, Sabrina Brar, welcomed guests into the restored heritage setting, which provided a striking backdrop for an important conversation: resident loneliness.
The discussion centred on how even the best-designed spaces can’t replace meaningful connection—and how loneliness remains one of the most pressing challenges in our communities. Attendees shared strategies for spotting the signs early, embedding connection into operations, and making sure no one slips through the cracks. It was a candid, solutions-focused session that reminded us why this work matters.
Shell Cove, Warrigal – Rethinking Models of Care
We then head to Shell Cove to meet with the team at Warrigal, hosted by Hope Prosser. This event turned the spotlight on care delivery—specifically, how operators are experimenting with new models of support that better reflect the evolving needs of older Australians.
A key message that emerged was the need for clarity. As operators pilot hybrid approaches—ranging from wellness-based models to more traditional care frameworks—it’s critical we don’t lose sight of what’s being offered and how it’s communicated. Confusion in care can undermine trust. We need to be upfront with residents and families, and make sure innovation doesn’t come at the cost of transparency.
Blueheath at the Bower, Principle Living – Building Momentum
We wrapped up the week at Blueheath at the Bower, a modern and welcoming village by Principle Living. Hosted by Adam Lewbinski and David Kelly, this event was a chance to see how strong design, smart planning, and community focus can come together to create something truly aspirational.
The conversation here was more informal, with attendees taking time to explore the village, share experiences, and discuss what’s working in their own communities. It was a reminder that sometimes the best insights come from simply getting people in the same room.
Across all three events, one thing was clear: while the challenges are complex, no one is tackling them alone. The insights shared, the questions raised, and the connections formed remind us that progress doesn’t happen in isolation, it happens in conversation.
Networking is central to any serious commitment to professional growth. When we step out of our day-to-day, into spaces where peers are thinking, questioning, and sharing openly, we sharpen our ideas and expand our impact.
That’s what this week was about. And it’s exactly what’s driving momentum into our upcoming VILLAGE SUMMIT, where we will deep dive into Wellbeing, done well with keynote speaker Marcus Pearce.
