In the past year, Australians reported more than 87,000 cybercrime incidents, with total scam losses exceeding $2.7 billion. People aged over 65 experienced some of the highest financial losses of any age group.
For villages managing personal data, recurring payments, trust accounts and resident communications, the risk is not theoretical. One phishing email, one compromised invoice or one breached password can trigger financial loss, reputational damage and serious privacy obligations.
