Movember has launched new cheeky creative to mark the start of Movember.
Now entering its 21st year, the simplicity of Movember’s premise – growing a moustache for the 30 days of November – continues to raise awareness and fund support for men’s health issues.
The men that participate are largely judged by their friends and family on the standard of a thick, luscious facial hair, something the charity wants to challenge in this campaign by embracing the wispy, scraggly and somewhat microscopic Mo’s.
In the centre of this year’s campaign is the ‘Shit Mo’s Save Lives’ song, an anthem dedicated to ‘folically-challenged’ men, encouraging them to take part in the cause.
Movember’s acting head of creative Josh Mann said what struck him immediately about the moustache-growing movement is that it is led not so much by Movember themselves, but by a groundswell of people that care about the future of men’s health.
“User-generated content is what makes the campaign successful and by arming our many Mo’s with an anthem to soundtrack their own content, we’ll help tie this hairy season together,” he said.
Movember in Retirement Villages
While it is more common to see Movember embraced by staff than residents, as a month of awareness it still provides an opportunity to draw attention to issues around men’s health.
Here’s a list of initiatives for Village Managers to promote Movember in retirement villages:
Educational and Information sessions: Host a presentation or casual talk about Movember’s goals, inviting a healthcare professional to discuss men’s health. There is also plenty of material you can download from the Movember website to support these sessions.
Personal Stories: Share resident stories about men’s health in newsletters or talks to make the cause relatable.
Moustache Growing Challenge: Encourage male residents to grow a moustache, and track progress with weekly photos on a communal notice board or newsletter.
Fake Moustache Day: Organise a day for everyone to wear fake moustaches to include those unable to grow facial hair.
Social Media Sharing: Post updates and photos of Movember activities on social media (with permission) to spread awareness. Ps. Your marketing team will LOVE you for this.
Health Check Day: Partner with local healthcare providers to offer screenings or check-ups within the village.
There are plenty more that can be done. These are just some of the creative ideas we have heard about from Village Professionals across the country.
