Australia’s leading retirement village operator Aveo is at the forefront of the commitment to reconciliation. It is National Reconciliation Week to 3 June.
The Aveo Reconciliation Action Plan Artwork, commissioned by Aveo and created by First Nations artist Jeremy Donovan, was unveiled at a ceremony attended by well over 100 staff and residents at The Newstead Residences in the inner northern riverside suburb of Brisbane, in August 2023.
After listening to the residents’ stories, Jeremy created a piece reflecting the mountains that are our elders and the many paths we travel to come together as a community. Na Tjunga means ‘Old People’, the knowledge holders and the teachers. They are represented by the mountains which hold the stories just like our older people.
The original painting hangs in the foyer of The Newstead Residences’ office, and this year, each community will receive a canvas print of the painting to display.
Several Aveo communities are holding Reconciliation Week events including a First Nations art exhibition at Forest Grove Retirement Living in Durack, in Brisbane’s outer southwestern suburbs.

“Aveo is dedicated to encouraging greater involvement of First Nations Australians in our teams, communities, and business networks. These commitments are guided by our Reconciliation Action Plan, which launched late last year and was recently endorsed by Reconciliation Australia,” said a spokesperson.
“We acknowledge the deep connections to lands and waters held by First Nations People and show our appreciation to these lands and waters through our reconciliation initiatives and also through our focus on environmental sustainability across all areas of our business.”
