It has been 110-years since the landing at Gallipoli
In 2025, we commemorate the 110-year anniversary of the landing at Gallipoli by the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) troops.
The 25th April is more than just a public holiday for many Australians. It is a day of remembrance. Not just for those who fought for our freedoms 110 years ago, but for the men and woman who continue to serve our country to this day.
Some villages will elect to hold their ANZAC service on the 25th, others will hold something before or after, to allow residents to continue with their own traditions of visiting memorials or attending RSL or Ex-Serviceman clubs across the country.
For some, a game of two-up might even be on the agenda.
Regardless of how the day is spent, we wanted to take a moment to pay our continued respects to those that have come before us, and those who will continue to protect our freedoms into the future.
For now, we wanted to pass on a handful of ANZAC Day-related activities we have had shared with us by Village Professionals from across the country.
Ways to Commemorate ANZAC Day in Your Village
- Host a Dawn Service or Commemorative Event
- Organise a village-led service at dawn, in a community garden or central area.
- Play The Last Post and observe a minute’s silence.
- Invite a local RSL representative or a resident with service experience to share reflections.
- Involve Residents in ANZAC Traditions
- Organise a group visit to a local ANZAC Day service or march.
- Encourage residents to share personal stories, photos, or memorabilia.
- Set up a display of wartime history, including letters, medals, and family stories.
- ANZAC-Themed Morning Tea or Lunch
- Serve ANZAC biscuits and traditional wartime recipes.
- Decorate community spaces with poppies and Australian flags.
- Play classic wartime songs to evoke memories and conversation.
- Educational Talks and Discussions
- Host a talk on the history and significance of ANZAC Day.
- Screen a documentary or film about Australia’s military history.
- Encourage intergenerational connection by inviting local school students to learn from residents.
- Support Veteran Residents and Their Families
- Acknowledge veterans and their spouses with a small token of appreciation.
- Provide a quiet space for those who may find the day emotional or overwhelming.
- Offer information on veteran support services for those who may need it.
Taking Part in 2025
No matter where you are on Anzac Day, you can commemorate April 25th. The ABC will have comprehensive broadcast coverage of Anzac Day services and events. Tune into their coverage throughout the day across ABC Radio, ABC listen app, ABC TV, ABC iview and online from 5.30am (AEST).
