- Date April 3, 2025
Easter is only two weeks away. Feels like only yesterday we were putting up Christmas trees!
This is one of those times in the year that a little effort can go a long way in making Easter a special occasion for retirement village residents.
If you are stuck for ideas when it comes to what you can do in your retirement village, have no fear – we’ve put together a list of some of the things we’ve heard about through the grape vine of DCM Institute Village Professionals. We are sure you can find something in this list to brighten someone’s day.
Easter Morning Tea or Lunch
- Organize a community Easter gathering with traditional treats such as hot cross buns, chocolate eggs, and a delicious meal.
- Encourage residents to invite family and friends to join the celebration.
- Set up a sharing table where residents can bring homemade dishes or treats from their cultural traditions.
Non-denominational Church Service or Reflection
- Arrange for a local minister or priest to lead an Easter service in the community space.
- Set up a quiet reflection area with candles, prayers, and Easter messages for those who wish to observe the holiday spiritually.
Easter Arts, Crafts, and Social Activities
- Egg decorating – A fun, interactive activity for residents and visiting grandchildren.
- Easter hat parade [featuring residents] – Encourage creativity by having residents design and showcase their Easter hats.
- Card-making and decorations – A great way to spread Easter cheer throughout the village.
Intergenerational Activities
- Family Easter Picnic – Host an outdoor picnic where residents can celebrate with their grandchildren and loved ones.
- Easter hat parade [featuring students] – Reach out to the local school (primary or pre) and invite them along to showcase their Easter hats.
- Easter Egg Hunt – Organize a small egg hunt for visiting children to bring joy and energy to the village.
- Storytelling Sessions – Residents can share Easter memories and stories with younger generations.
As you can see from this list, this time of year really is about one thing – Chocolate Eggs. Not really. In all seriousness it is about coming together. Connecting with family and friends, as well as neighbours.
We can’t wait to see what many of you get up to over the coming weeks!
