Three ‘ships of the desert’ sailed into Aveo’s Bayview Gardens retirement living community on Sydney’s Northern Beaches much to the delight of residents and a group of excited grandchildren.
The community’s tranquil rainforest-like grounds were transformed last weekend to the sounds of laughter and camel bleats.
Aveo Bayview Gardens Community Manager Melinda Akehurst said the vibrant residents are always ready for a bit of fun.
“The camel visit was organised by our resident Gary, a country boy, who previously brought in his Clydesdale horses. He joked how he would top that and I said ‘get me some camels to ride through the village’, so he did with the help of a mate from Oakfield Ranch Camel Rides,’’ Melinda said.
“About 90 people attended with 20 to 30 residents and several grandchildren having a ride on the gentle giants and even sharing camel kisses. It made everyone’s day it was so much fun.“
A couple of the Bayview Gardens residents said riding a camel was on their bucket list while another said it was the first time all their grandkids had begged to visit the village. To do this with their grandchildren was a magical experience.
“One of our residents who was resting at home after a hospital visit said she thought she was seeing things when a camel passed her window.’’
Gary is already planning his next challenge for the residents and it seems a visit from a bull might be next!
