100% of those who attended DCM Institutes first Lunch & Learn agree – this is one initiative not to be missed!
Last week the DCM Institute held an exclusive event for NSW participants in their professional development program – a Lunch & Learn.
This is the first in a series of state-based events that will provide Village Professionals with access to content and information form sources they would not otherwise have access to in their roles.
In this instance, the DCM Institute team and the Retirement Village Residents Association of NSW was joined by the NSW Office of Fair Trading, who spoke to the review of the Retirement Village Regulations.
Some of the key take aways were:
- The proposed simplification of the Asset Management Plan process which has been a thorn in the side of residents and operators alike;
- An allowance for Fair Trading to share information with the NSW Aging and Disability Commission. An important step given the growing concern about the prevalence of Elder Abuse in retirement villages following an eye opening study by the RVRA NSW.
- An increase in the number of offensive provisions withing the NSW Rules of Conduct which will see operators face penalties for:
- Not having developed a strategy for preventing elder abuse.
- Failing to keep records of conflicts of interest.
- Discouraging residents from making complaints or pursuing internal disputes
The DCM Institute was established to lift the standards of professionalism in Village Management and Sales in 2019. 6 years on, the program has more than 600 professionals actively enrolled, representing more than 150 owners and operators.
The next Lunch & Learn will be on Wednesday 12 March and will focus on Western Australia. Guest speakers will be from the residents association and Government Department who will speak on the recent legislative reforms.
